Veteran Community Service: The Resilient Living Initiative
Bridging Gaps in Healthcare Access, Social Support, and Recovery Through Integrative Care and Community-Based Services
The Northern Medical Research Foundation (NMRF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the research, evaluation, and implementation of natural and complementary therapies to improve health outcomes and quality of life across diverse communities.
Our Approach: Resilient Living
We believe that true resilience is built within individuals and strengthened through supportive environments, including families and communities. The Resilient Living Initiative is structured around core pillars that equip veterans – both individuals and those with loved ones – with practical, lifelong tools for well-being.

- Tailored for Veterans
Gentle, slow-moving standing exercises (Qigong) provide an accessible form of active meditation, particularly beneficial for those experiencing restlessness or heightened vigilance. - Dynamic and Engaging Practice
The system includes four easy-to-learn standing exercises and one seated meditation, allowing participants to boost energy levels and regulate the nervous system without requiring long periods of sitting still. - A Foundation for Inner Stability
Rooted in the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, the practice supports emotional balance, moral resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. - Inclusive Participation
Veterans are supported both as individuals and within their family environments. Spouses and adult family members are encouraged – but not required – to participate, strengthening support systems and providing shared tools for communication, stress management, and de-escalation. - Accessible and Sustainable
Falun Gong is always taught free of charge by volunteers, ensuring long-term accessibility without financial barriers.
- Partner-Based Integration
Certified volunteer instructors lead sessions within established community organizations, leveraging trusted environments and existing relationships. - Community Wellness Pop-Ups
Public workshops in parks, libraries, and community venues provide low-barrier entry points for participation while accommodating those who prefer privacy or anonymity.

Our Commitment to Excellence
NMRF brings together expertise in biomedical research, mental health, and community programming to ensure high-quality, accountable services.
- Evidence-Informed Evaluation
Optional baseline and follow-up assessments using validated tools such as PHQ-9 and the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) - Data Privacy and Security
All screening data is stored on HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2-certified systems to protect participant confidentiality - Measurable Outcomes
